Making the right choice as the Athlete

How many times we’ve been to sporting events and we see the athletes or the athletes seem to slow down because of fatigue? There are things an athlete must do to keep their bodies from injury and so they can perform at peak levels. Every athlete should consume lots of carbohydrates to provide energy during their performances. They also consume a good amount of protein to help them build strong, lean muscles. But many of the most important, athletes should drink water.

Before the event means that athletes will want to eat a high carbohydrate and low fat. Carbohydrates are the fuel for your body. You’ll want to eat enough carbohydrates to keep you going. Studies have shown that an athlete should get approximately 60% of their energy from carbohydrates. Fresh fruit, cereal, bread, vegetables, and pasta are good sources of carbohydrates. Do not eat or drink anything sweet. It won’t increase your energy level. They are difficult to digest and will drain your energy in the long term. You’ll want you to eat several hours before the event so that your food has time to digest and convert into energy.

After event, you’ll want to eat a balanced diet with carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Athletes need protein, especially after the events to help their muscles grow and become stronger.
